Sky and Hardy cannot be in the same room without arguing. CHAPTER 1
CHAPTER 1 Sky moved his hips to the sound of the beat as he kneaded the dough for the bread he was making to go with the lasagna he had in the oven. Nothing soothed Sky's nerves more than cooking, and after the past few days he and the others had been through, Sky needed the calming effect chopping, stirring, and baking brought to him. His headphones were pulled from his ears, startling Sky, causing him to shriek. "Hey there, brother of mine, what has you so upset?" Midnight asked with that all-knowing look he always got. Sky shrugged, "I'm good, Nigh. Just thought a good meal would be nice for a change." Midnight rolled his eyes, "Sky, I have known you your entire life. The only time you make homemade bread and lasagna is when you're upset about something. So, spill." Sky formed his dough and placed it in a loaf pan before covering it, "I really wish you didn't know me so well." "Well, I do, so tell me what's wrong." Midnight replied. "Nigh, I'm really torn. I want to help the people of Haven and all, but I don't know if I can mate with Hardy. Emry's great. He is one of the sweetest men I have ever met. He touches me every chance he gets. I'm talking little touches, to my hair, hand, cheek, things like that, not the grab and grope type." "And Hardy is like his name, hard. He holds you accountable for your actions and doesn't give in to your batting eyelashes and cuteness?" Midnight said with a smirk. Sky looked away, not wanting his brother to see his sadness and hurt. He knew how happy Midnight was since mating with Law and Shaw. He just didn't see that kind of happiness in his future, at least with Emry and Hardy. "Hey, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you. I just know that you're not always the easiest to communicate with, Sky. You get an idea in your head and you'll do whatever it takes to achieve your mission. Just like when we got caught going to that party. You wanted to go and there was no talking you out of it. It got raided, we got in trouble, and grounded for a month." Midnight stated. Shrugging, Sky replied, "But we had fun." "Sky, the music about burst my eardrums and both men and women groped us the entire time." Midnight argued. Shrugging, Sky replied, "You can't say it wasn't a night to remember." "Oh, I remember plenty. How about since we've been here? You insisted we go to where our father died. Hardy told you it was too dangerous, but no, you had to go. Look at the result of that one, Sky." Midnight stated with exasperation in his tone. Sky tossed the hand towel on the counter, "Seriously, Midnight? You are going to blame me for what went down out there?" "We all almost died out there, Sky! I knew we shouldn't have gone, but I also know the look you get when there is no talking you out of something." Midnight yelled. "You could have stayed home, Nigh. No one forced you out to the place our father died. You made a f*****g choice and now you want to hold it against me? That s**t isn't fair." Sky snapped. Midnight gasped, "You seriously think that I would let you go to a location that Hardy warned you about alone? Think about it, Sky. Had Rey and I not gone with you, what would have happened? You would have most likely been killed, that's what. “Hardy warned you. The thing I noticed about him is that he doesn't sugar coat s**t. He tells it like it is. Yet, if that man says the sky is blue, you will scoff at him and argue that it's cerulean. If he said it was clear, you'd say, but the clouds are rolling in. I don't understand it. For some reason when that man talks you have this urge to contradict him every step of the way. I've known you to be stubborn, but honestly, Sky, this is even worse than usual." Sky got quiet and he became teary eyed, "He looks down on me, Midnight. He doesn't treat or talk to me with any respect. You get what you give. Maybe I just don't belong here. Maybe it might be best if I leave." Sky started to walk away, but Midnight stopped him, "Where in the hell do you think you're going? Sky, we have responsibilities here. This s**t isn't just about you, it's about thousands of other people." "So, what are you saying? I have to mate with two men, one I don't like, and one that kinda likes me, but has been mooning over Hardy for years? What you're telling me is that I have to live in misery because it's for the greater good of everyone else?" Sky snapped. "I'm just asking you to give them a chance." Midnight whispered. Shaking his head, Sky replied sadly, "No, you're asking me to sacrifice any happiness I might find in life so that some curse can be broken. I don't know if I can do that. You and everyone else look at my hesitation as selfish. I don't know. Maybe you're right. What I do know, is that if I thought for one moment that you would have been this unhappy to be forced into mating Law and Shaw, I would have done my best to be there for you. Hell, I would have taken you away from here myself. I wouldn't have sat back and said take one for the f*****g team, but hey, you have your mates and you're thrilled, so what does it matter if Sky isn't happy? Rey has his and he is ecstatic. It didn't work that way for me, Nigh. Like I said, I need to get out of here for a while. Have some alone time and think. King Cortez gave me an open invitation to go and visit. I think I'm going to take him up on it." Midnight's anxiety was in his eyes as well as his voice "Sky..." Shaking his head, Sky replied, "No more talking, Nigh. Right now, I can only say that I never thought I would ever see the day that you would not be there for me." "That's not true, Sky!" Midnight said as tears started trickling down his cheeks. Sky hated that he had hurt his brother's feelings, but what about his? When did what he was feeling matter? "Sadly, it is Nigh. Cortez gave me his number before we left the island. I think I'll give him a call after dinner and if the invite is still open, I'm going. I can get to know the people there like we did at Sovereignty Island." "Sky, you can't just go to Cortez's place with no one there to watch over you!" Midnight yelled. Sky felt his rage burst free, "Don't you tell me what I can and can't do! I am not a f*****g prisoner to Haven. Last I checked, eighteen meant that I was a legal f*****g adult! If Cortez will still have me, I. Am. Going." "Like hell you are! If I have to lock you in a room, I will. There is no way you're going to that place alone." Hardy said from the kitchen entrance. Sky threw his hands in the air, then pushed past Hardy, making his way towards the front door, "I will do as I please!" "Always! You always do as you please and to hell what anyone else has to say about it. To hell if anyone could get hurt or killed. To hell if the people of Haven cease to exist. As long as Sky has what he wants, to hell with everyone and everything." Hardy snapped. "Holy mother of f**k! Does everyone in Haven think I'm a selfish prick?" Sky gasped. Then threw open the front door, "I'm calling Cortez and taking one of the ATV's up to his place. I'll let you know when I get there." Sky could see that Hardy was beyond pissed at this point, "You will come back inside Sky or──" "Or what?" Sky snapped back, then got into Hardy's face, "You gonna beat me into submission, Hardy? Are you going to lock me in one of the cells and leave me there? Just what the f**k do you think you're going to do to me? I am going and there is nothing you can do to stop me! My job is to make sure everyone on the refuge is well cared for and happy, so I am just going to go and do what the mighty Selene and my oh so wonderful father ordered." "You will do as you're told!" Hardy snarled. "f**k you, Hardy. You can't keep me from going to Cortez's castle. I have an obligation to the people of Haven. You know that!" Sky yelled out. Hardy quickly snapped, "You always rush into things that you know nothing about! I'm just asking you to stop acting so damn stupid, and wait until I can find out more about these people." "Me, stupid? Seriously? “Sky shouted out then said even louder, "You know, I'm pretty sure if I were to smack the stupid out of you there wouldn't be anything left!" Emry came racing towards his mates, "Enough you two! By the Gods, I'm sick to death of hearing you two fight all the time!" Hardy growled, "Stay out of this." Sky hissed, "Then wear f*****g ear muffs. Because as long as this dickhead is going to try and control me, the worse it's going to get!" Emery threw his hands in the air, shouting, "I can't believe that the fates would give me two of the most headstrong asshats for mates! What the f**k did I do wrong in life?" "Enter it!" Sky automatically shouted. Rey drew in a sharp breath. Sky immediately regretted his words as soon as they left his mouth. Emry had been nothing but kind and sweet to him, and there was just no excuse for what he said, "I'm so sorry, Emry. I swear, I didn't mean it." Emery shook his head, the pain in his eyes tearing at Sky's very soul. Hardy snarled, "See what I mean about impulses? Now you hurt our mate!" Sky had never felt the urge to choke the s**t out of someone more in his life. If he hadn't of been so angry at Hardy, he would never have hurt Emry. Getting in Hardy's face spit flying out of his mouth, he shouted, "f**k you, Hardy! None of this would have happened had you minded your own business and──" Loud thunder sounded and Selene was standing with the three mates. She was a beautiful woman, but right now her beauty was marred with rage, "I have had enough of the three of you constantly bickering. Especial you two!" Selene hissed, pointing at Hardy and Sky. Sky wagged his finger angrily at Hardy, "He is the one that won't stop shoving his nose so far up my ass, he can sniff my prostate!" "I am only trying to get you to think before doing something that could get your stupid ass killed!" Hardy argued back. Emry turned to Selene, shouting, "I want new mates! No one can live with this bullshit for centuries!" Midnight, Law, and Shaw came rushing out of the house. A loud rumbling shook the ranch. Horses nickered and ran, chickens clucked and took off in different directions. Slowly, Selene raised her hands, saying in a voice that spoke as the Goddess she was, "That is enough! I will not have three imbeciles ruin everything I have worked so hard to create. You all need to step away from your safety zones and learn what danger you face if you do not learn to come together as a trio." Bright light hit the ground as a large bolt of lightning struck in front of them. The next thing Sky knew, he was falling into a black hole. Sky could hear Hardy and Emry yelling for him, but he had no will to answer.
